Outdoor Activities - Adventure Holidays

The great outdoors beckons here in Lochaber ‘The Outdoor Capital of the UK’! Stay here at The Isles of Glencoe Hotel and blend 3 star comfort and style with adventure and adrenalin!

Location and variation make the Highlands of Scotland an ideal base for activity breaks and holidays.

Walking

Glencoe and the surrounding area provides unlimited opportunities for walking and hiking.

Choose from a leisurely walk along a loch or hillside or perhaps try something a little more strenuous. Every walk leads to a special view be it of a loch, river or mountain. Wander along a remote beach, by a ruined castle or under a canopy of trees on a forest trail.

Our team will be happy to direct you to a range of local short walks. The most popular include the trails at Glenachulish which are just behind the hotel, Ballachulish Quarry, Glencoe Lochan and Inchree Waterfall. Most Sundays Tom leads a guided walk to Glencoe Lochan which is free of charge to guests.

Longer hikes are plentiful and include the many trails through Leanachan Forest, the Blackwater Resevoir and sections of the West Highland Way.

Those on more strenuous walking holidays will find stunning views at the top of the Pap of Glencoe and Cuil Hill and many more local hills.

Those who love the adventure of hill walking come back time and time to Glencoe this mountain paradise in the Scottish Highlands.

Climbing

We offer the perfect base for a mountain climbing holiday here in the Highlands of Scotland.

Those serious about hill walking and Munro bagging in particular, will be spoilt for choice. Famous names conjour images of great giants, Ben Nevis, Bidean nam Bian and The Mamores all stand majestically over the Scottish Highlands.

The Aonach Eagach Ridge famed for its narrow paths and sheer drops and the renowned Buchaille Etive Mor are just two of the climbs within a short drive of the hotel. Go further afield and find the hills of Morvern and the mighty Ben Nevis.

It must be said however, that these mountains are amongst the most challenging in Scotland and should only be attempted by fully equipped and experienced climbers.

Year round climbing and ice climbing is also available at The Ice Factor, the UK’s premier indoor mountain activity centre. Qualified instruction is available for those willing to take up the challenge!
